No.CA to Denver Area

I'm planning to fly my C-172 from Northern CA (KUKI) to the closest, convenient, safest airport near Breckenridge, CO (which has no airport). Haven't flown Rockies before. Looking to land/park at Eagle Co. airport - or - Denver area GA airport. Any summer (July) tips, suggestions would be helpful. Plan to fly daytime VFR. Fairly full/heavy, but nowhere near gross. Thanks. CHUCK SIMON

If anyone has a response to this, I'd love to hear it. When I lived in Breckenridge, someone there owned a bunch of land and was trying to put an aiport there for years. I guess they could never get it pushed through the town council. Anyway, if you land in Eagle county, it seems you don't have to go completely over the continental divide which is nice. Remember the weather changes fairly quickly in the mountains, even in the summer, so always have an alternate in mind. :-)

Eagle is easy to get into and out of. Coming from the west you can follow the Colorado River from Grand Junction with no problems. There are no airfields any closer. Leadville might be slightly closer, but it is 10,000 ft elevation and has no real services except fuel.
